We officially opened our doors to guests on Saturday, May 18th with the arrival of a rather rowdy group of ladies from Rochester, NY. The occasion of their visit was birthday celebration for Marilyn, who, for many years has played the role of gracious host at her and husband Dave’s summer home on the finger lakes. So, we turned the tables on Marilyn and foisted upon her the role of honored guest and birthday girl. Gathering together a group of working moms and active professionals is typically an exercise in creative planning and pulling this celebration together was no exception. But for an old and dear friend, these gals cleared their schedule.
In the three years that we’ve been tenaciously renovating the historic Ruben G. Wright farmhouse our family and friends have, on many occasions, made the trip down from Rochester to check on progress, offer words of encouragement and even put on a tool belt or picked up a paint brush and lent a hand.
This weekend marked the first such visit when we didn’t need to make apologies for our “dust” and were able to offer our old loyal friends the hospitality and country ambiance of our restored and re-purposed home. Now that the doors have been thrown open and we have met the demanding standards of Barbara’s wild bunch, we hope others will follow and give us the opportunity to express our gratitude for the loyal and generous support so many have offered on our journey to opening Gold Brook Farm.
