Spring rains kept us out of the field longer than anticipated but the delay was fortuitous. Good soil moisture and warm temperatures have provided fertile setting for the 2019 growing season. Our Canola, planted in late May, is up and in bloom and Chad’s soybeans, planted on the same week, have gotten off to a strong start. We anticipate harvesting our Canola field in August and will be marketing the crop for oil production.
We’ve also had ample rains to fatten the stone fruit growing in the garden; we’ve harvested 18 quarts of strawberries, 8 quarts of black raspberries and are now picking ever-bearing red raspberries.
